A 62-year-old man, Adamu Danga, of Bosso Lowcost Area of Minna, the Niger State capital, has been arrested by police officers for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl, claiming he committed the act under the influence of palm wine.

Danga, who confessed to luring the victim to the cemetery area when she was sent on an errand by her mother, claimed that he had drunk some quantity of palm wine that he bought on his way home from the farm and was under its influence when he committed the act.

Parading the suspect in Minna, the Niger State Police Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, said the suspect was sighted around Numui Cemetery without trousers and on top of a minor.

He explained that a witness who saw him raised an alarm, and the case was immediately reported to the Bosso Police Division on January 30, 2024.

“Before the Police Division could mobilise to the scene, the suspect was pursued and arrested by a mob,” he disclosed.

According to him, the suspect was immediately taken to the Bosso Division, where a preliminary investigation was conducted, and the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Minna.

Meanwhile, the girl had been taken to the police clinic for a medical examination.

Abiodun further stated that the case is under investigation and, upon conclusion, the suspect will be arraigned in court for prosecution.
