The Oyo state police command has dismissed reports that Akeem Akintola, chairman of the state tipper, lorry and quarry park management system, was kidnapped.

There were reports that Akintola was abducted on Saturday by gunmen at his residence in the Ajiboye area of Omi Apata in Ibadan, Oyo state capital.

However, Adewale Osifeso, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Oyo, said Akintola was not kidnapped by gunmen, but was arrested by the police.

He said police operatives arrested Akintola over allegations of criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

“Police wish to clear the air on events surrounding the alleged abduction of one Alhaji Akeem Akintola and another person, Segun (surname yet unknown) both members of the Oyo State Park Management System,” Osifeso said.

“The duo was invited by intelligence operatives from force headquarters, Abuja who were on lawful duty in connection with their alleged involvement in criminal offences.

“The allegations include criminal conspiracy, attempted murder, armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.”

He added that the matter is being investigated and that updates would be made public.
