Data management is necessary to optimise the quality of work, save time and ensure performance for effective delivery, so as to complement government’s agenda on agriculture and food security

Ogun State Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Bolu Owotomo, stated this at a three-day training on Data Management and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Application, organised by Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP), for staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, at Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta.

Hon. Owotomo, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Samuel Adeogun, explained that the training was to build the capacity of staff for effective delivery of various government intervention, particularly in the agricultural sector, adding that the platform would also avail the different department in the Ministry to provide adequate and effective data and provision of information.

He noted that utilisation of computers along with other telecommunication equipment for storage, retrieval, transmission of data among other tasks, would improve the efficiency of the Ministry, advising participants to make adequate use of the knowledge gained from the training to improve on their productivity.

“Data runs the world, if you do not have good data, you cannot plan, and if you do not plan, you cannot have good results; when the results are there, you will be able to measure the impact of the activities”, he said.

On her part, the Project Manager, OGSTEP, Dr. Mrs Oluseyi Olugire, appreciated government for the training, noting that it would greatly impact on their productivity, as well as give them a basic grasp of ICT tools usage in their various offices.

Earlier, the monitoring and evaluation specialist, OGSTEP, Dr. Abiodun Adeeko, advised that the training should be seen as an empowerment, in order to expand the horizon of participants.

Speaking on behalf of other participants, Mr. Seun Somide and Miss Aminat Sumola, appreciated the Ministry for the initiative, saying the training had widened their knowledge on the importance of data management and ICT application and promised to maximally utilise knowledge gained to take the sector to an enviable height.
