Three inmates of Ijebu Ode Correctional Home, in Ijebu Ode Local Council of Ogun State, have scaled the fence and bolted away from the facility.

Spokesperson for Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Ogun State Command, Victor Oyeleke, who confirmed the development to newsmen in Abeokuta, yesterday, said the incident occurred at about 3:00 a.m., on Saturday.

He gave the names of the inmates as: Hammed Adeboyejo, convicted for armed robbery and murder; Fatai Taiwo Akande from Ijebu-Igbo, also convicted for murder; and Aliu Oguntona, sentenced for sexual offences.

He said: “Yes, it is confirmed; it happened early hours of Saturday morning. A search is on the way to bring the three back. We have their biometrics and we have contacts of their families. We are working together with other sister agencies. And in good time, they will be brought back.”

Also, a statement by the Ijebu Imushin Area Command of So-Safe Corps, the state-owned security agency, confirmed the incident.

The statement, which has since gone viral, reads: “Report reaching us now says that three prisoners escaped from the Ijebu Ode Correctional Centre, whose name are, Hammed Adeboyejo who was convicted of murder/armed robbery; Fatai Taiwo Akande from Ijebu-Igbo,who was sentenced on a murder case, while the third man, Oguntona Aliu, was convicted of sexual offence. In case you see any of them, quickly contact the office of So-Safe Corps Command closer to you, The Nigerian Police and any other security agency.”

When contacted, the So-Safe Corps Commander, Soji Ganzallo, however, said he knew nothing about the purported jail break. “I don’t know anything about it, so discountenance it,” Ganzallo said.
