Police shoot actor Azeez Ijaduade in Ogun

Azeez Ololade Ijaduade, the Yoruba actor, has been shot by a police officer in Iperu, Ogun state.

Abiodun Adebayo, a colleague of the actor, broke the news via his Instagram page in the early hours of Sunday.

Adebayo said Ijaduade was rushed to the Babcock Teaching Hospital in Iperu, where he is currently battling for his life.

The movie producer also called for help from Nigerians.

“Please we need help in Iperu. My director, Azeez Ijaduade, @kingzeez1, was shot by a Nigeria Police personnel,” he wrote.

“Anybody with the contacts of the Police IG or Commissioner should reach out.”

In a now-viral video, several infuriated individuals were heard hurling insults at some police officers over the shooting incident.

“Where did you see the gun that you shot him with? What if you kill him?” one of them asked.

In a statement, Omolola Odutola, the state’s police spokesperson, confirmed that an officer “accidentally discharged” a shot from his rifle that hit the actor.

Odutola said Ijaduade “is in stable condition,” adding that members of the public will be notified when he is discharged.

The statement said the police officer involved in the shooting incident has been identified and will be probed.

“He was rushed to hospital in Ilishan and he is in a very stable condition. The Commander Mopol 16 has contacted the actor and also visited him in the hospital where he will be discharged soon. The Commander has also taken up responsibility for the medical bill.

“The actor speaking to the Commander Mopol 16 has confirmed he is in stable condition ,members of the public will be notified when he is discharged.

“The Mobile Policeman has been identified and investigation into the shooting incident has commenced by the Command, members of the public will be updated accordingly.”
