A statement by the Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, Margaret Adeseye, clarified that an emergency call was received by the agency around 2pm.

Adeseye explained that the fire which resulted from leakage of a gas cylinder in use at one of the shops led to the explosion that spread to several other shops.

It further disclosed that the fire had been put under control as efforts were on to dampen down any remaining pockets of flames.

It was learnt firefighters from Ejigbo and Isolo stations tackled the flames. They were also joined by personnel from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC), and the Nigerian Police Force from Ikotun Division to maintain law and order.
