Mercy Bassey, widow of the late Bassey Sardauna, a school teacher at Government Day Secondary School, Model, Jalingo, allegedly killed by his students, has expressed concern over the absence of proof regarding the arrest of a former pupil who fatally stabbed her husband on November 11, 2023.

Despite rumours circulating about the suspect’s apprehension, Mrs Bassey remains sceptical, insisting she has no information as to the level of investigation carried out on the matter.

She said, “I have not received any confirmation about the suspect yet,” adding that since the day after the incident, when some policemen visited her home and said they would look into the case, none of them had come back to address the family.

”We haven’t heard anything about the case from anybody. We only heard rumours that the suspect had been arrested but I don’t believe that he has been arrested.”

The late teacher met his tragic end when he was stabbed by some students of Model Secondary School in Jalingo on his way home.

The incident had stirred public outcry, with Tarabans demanding justice from the relevant authorities.

As of the time of filing this report, the community is awaiting clarification and tangible evidence regarding the arrest of the alleged perpetrator, as questions surrounding the investigation persist.

When reached for confirmation, the state police command, through its spokesperson, Usman Abdullahi, said the command is still searching for the culprits
