The Olu of Orile-Ilawo in Odeda local government area of Ogun state, Oba Prof. Olusegun Alexandar MacGregor is set to honour Nigeria’s foremost political activist, Dr Julius Marcus Garvey Jr. with chieftaincy title.

Oba MacGregor disclose this at the African Door of Return Experience (ADORE) ceremony in Badagry tagged The Fourth Door of Return which was attended by notable dignitaries across the country.

The African Door Of Return which was described as a nostalgic event which celebrates the identity, culture, history, heritage and tradition of a given people in a given destination usually in the primordial homeland at a given period is organized annually by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM).

While speaking, Oba Prof. Macgregor said there is need for him to honour Dr Garvey, son of the Pan-African legend Marcus Mosiah Garvey who inspired game changers for more than a century due to the impacts he has made so far in the area of African historical facts.

The chieftaincy honorary title event will took place at the MacGregor Heritage House in Ilawo, Abeokuta on Tuesday 24th October, 2023.

While speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa said the event is being organized in partnership with the Lagos State government.

Dabiri-Erewa said, “The door of return includes receiving our brothers and sisters that were taken as slaves over 400 years ago historically, spiritually, emotionally and physically. It is a connection to what we call the joy of return. They are going to take a long walk through that path to the point of no return and we now receive them as kings and queens to where their ancestors were taken away so many years ago.

“It is a very emotional ceremony. It is an event everybody needs to participate in. What Lagos will eventually do is to open a permanent door in Badagry, Lagos. We are going to witness the return on the 21st of October, you are going to see what Badagry has, what Lagos has for tourism. No country in the world has what Badagry has for tourism. If the Lagos state government build on it, it will now be world renowned heritage in the world.’’
