The serving overseer of the Citadel Global Community Church Pastor Tunde Bakare has criticised the late singer Oladimeji Aloba aka Mohbad, saying his death at age 27 was due to his association with “evil men”.

Bakare also said during his sermon in Leicester, United Kingdom at the second anniversary of The Envoy Nation on Sunday that Mohbad’s choice of stage name which means ‘I am bad’ may have affected him as well.

The clergyman noted, however, that he does not blame the singer for his own death.

He said, “My wife and I listened to a tape last night on MohBad. How many of you know MohBad? The Nigerian artiste who died at 27? MohBad.

“When he was drinking and smoking and associating with evil men, he did not know that the harvest would come so soon and that he would soon be cut down at the prime of youth.

“I am not blaming him, I am just telling you. Is Mohbad a good name?”

Mohbad died on September 12 under controversial circumstances.

To further illustrate his point about Mohbad’s choice of stage name, Bakare told the congregation a story about an elderly man who drove a commercial vehicle and referred to himself as ‘Esu’ which means ‘Satan’ in English.

The cleric said that in spite of the negative connotation, the man embraced the nickname with joy and excitement.

According to him, the man disowned the nickname when he was involved in an accident.

Mohbad’s death caused national outrage, fuelling young people to protest in several parts of the country.

Last Thursday, the police exhumed his corpse for autopsy after he was hurriedly buried.
