NLC asks workers to resume work after two-day warning strike

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed civil servants to go back to work after the completion of the two-day warning strike.
Salient Times report that the union, in a statement on Wednesday, asked its members across the country to resume work on Thursday.
“As we mark the end of the two-day nationwide warning strike today, at the stroke of midnight, we earnestly call upon you all to gracefully conclude the strike and return to work tomorrow, in accordance with our initial agreement,” the statement signed by Joe Ajaero, NLC president, reads.
Last Friday, NLC asked its members to embark on a two-day warning strike over the impact of petrol subsidy removal on the masses.
The strike commenced on Tuesday, September 5.
Workers in some states fully complied with strike order as activities in government institutions were grounded, while partial compliance was witnessed in some states.
According to the statement, Ajaero commended affiliate unions and state chapters for their active participation in the warning strike.
He said the same passion that triggered the warning strike would be necessary for an indefinite strike if the government fails to respond to their demands.
“It is abundantly clear that our united message has resonated loudly with the government, and it would take a truly inattentive ear not to hear it,” the NLC president said.
“As we mark the end of the two-day nationwide warning strike today, at the stroke of midnight, we earnestly call upon you all to gracefully conclude the strike and return to work tomorrow, in accordance with our initial agreement.
“We would like to take this moment to express our profound appreciation for your unwavering determination and dedication, which played a pivotal role in the resounding success of this action.
“Your contributions during this warning strike exemplify your unwavering commitment to our shared cause.”
