Hon. Segun Williams Commiserates With the People of Gbagura Over the passage of Oba Saburee Babajide Bakre.
A two-term member of the House of Representatives Hon. Segun Williams has described the transition of the Agura of Gbagura Oba Babajide Sabur Baker as a great loss not only to the Gbagura community but Egba, Ogun state and the nation at large.
Hon Segun Williams made this observation over the weekend when he paid a condolence visit to the palace of Agura in the Oke Ido area of Gbagura Abeokuta to commiserate with the Chiefs and the people of Gbagura on the demise of the traditional ruler
Accompanied by some political leaders in the Ogun state the former legislator signed the condolence register after which he paid homage to the Oloroguns and the Ogbonis who are now the custodians of the palace pending the emergence of a New Agura
Speaking with Newsmen at the palace Hon Segun Williams described the late Òbà Sabur Bakre as a rare custodian of traditional culture and a role model for a better society.
The former legislator who represented Abeokuta South Federal Constituency observed that “even though his death came as a rude shock Oba Bakre was able to create a new lease of lives in over 72 towns and communities of Gbagura Egbaland. we shall miss his Midas touch”
Oba Babajide Sabur Bakre was installed as the 9th Agura of Gbagura in May 2019 by the Amosun-led administration and died 14th of June 2023 at the age of 61.
He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
