In the mid-hours of today, a dog owner, Ochonma Joseph, who went viral on social media platforms for organizing a naming ceremony for his dog, was interviewed by the Vanguard Newspaper.

During the interview, the dog owner said, “I think the dog naming ceremony all began as a joke. My dog’s name is Nike. When it was pregnant, it experienced a delay in birthing so when it finally birthed, I announced on social media that I will hold a naming ceremony for it.” He added, “I least expected people to respond but they ended up donating about four hundred and ninety thousand naira (N490k) after the announcement. The donations came in till the exact day of the celebration.”

Lastly, the dog owner said, “On the day of the event, people who did not buy the ‘asoebi’ (uniform native attire) were not allowed into the venue and security guards were used to avoid embarrassment of any sort.”
