‘It has been a long battle’ — Davido reacts to uncle’s supreme court win

Davido, the Afrobeats star, has celebrated the ruling of the supreme court affirming Ademola Adeleke, his uncle, as Osun state governor.

On Tuesday, the apex court affirmed Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the validly elected governor of Osun.

The supreme court also dismissed an appeal lodged against Adeleke’s election win by Adegboyega Oyetola, the former state governor.

Reacting to the verdict on Twitter, the award-winning singer taunted the opposition, saying “We go dey shock dem like high tension”.

The singer also took to his Instastory to congratulate the people of Osun, adding that it “is freedom time.”

“It has been a long battle. Congratulations to the Osun people, it is indeed freedom time,” he wrote.

“The battle has been on for years but God has been with us. Congratulations to everyone!”

The singer has been actively involved in the governorship race of his uncle. He has also used his social media platforms to advocate for Adeleke.

In March, the court of appeal sitting in Abuja reinstated Adeleke as the governor of Osun.

A three-member panel of justices of the court held that the Osun election tribunal erred when it ruled that the 1st and 2nd respondents — Oyetola and the All Progressives Congress — proved their allegation of over-voting.
