Ogun LG Service Commission organises workgroup meetings for executive officers
In continuation of its mandate at ensuring quality, efficient and effective workforce at the local government level, the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission on Tuesday and Wednesday organised the final workgroup meeting, each for its staff, both the Executive Officers cadre (Accounts and General Duties) from Ogun Central zone in the state local government service.
The trainings had already been organised for same cadre of workers from Ijebu, Yewa and Remo zones.
Speaking at the two events, which took place at “The Crescent, Muslim Professionals’ Hall, Leme, Abeokuta, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Ms. Olubukunola Olivia Onabanjo who was represented by the full time Commissioner lll, Dr. Olusesan Abolaji Fagbayi assures of constant training for all cadres of staff from the Commission.
She assured workers of constant training and retraining for improved service delivery, which according to her, remains the cardinal objective of the Commission.
While speaking on the achievements of the present administration in the state, Ms. Onabanjo said the present administration, led by His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR, is committed to the welfare and development of workers in the State.
“He has granted approvals to conduct the years 2021 and 2022 promotion exercise for eligible members of staff as well as directed the recruitment of staff into some selected professional cadres that were recently held”.
She further stated that the re-election of Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, the Executive Governor of Ogun State into office for the second term will engender unprecedented development in state and improve the standard of living of all and sundry.
Speaking on the importance of the training, she said “the programme was put together by the Commission to acquaint the participants on the nitty gritty of their schedules”.
“It behoves on these cadres to know the basic requirements of their job for optimal performance, in view of the fact that your cadre plays prominent roles in rendering supportive services to the management”.
“Let us go back in the history of the service, when some of you were assigned to higher responsibilities, a very rare opportunity to have occupied positions of authority. This was in the era of Local Council Development Areas. We cannot foretell what the future holds, hence, it is imperative that you adequately equip yourselves with the basic knowledge that will enable you to perform your assigned duties effectively, such as having in-depth knowledge of Staff Regulations/Public Service Rules, Local Government Laws, Financial Memorandum, Extant Circulars and General Orders”.
Onabanjo further stated that the present Commission is poised to propelling the local government service to enviable heights. “You should therefore join hands and demonstrate genuine and active commitment to best practices in the discharge of your services to the populace”.
“Your disposition to work should enhance the policy direction and set standards of the Service.
Ms. Onabanjo thereafter charged them to imbibe good work ethics, moral and positive disposition at their various duty posts and conduct themselves properly, as this will speak volumes as representatives of the Commission, adding that it is mandatory that they should uphold the confidentiality of information at their disposal.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ogun State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Adeolu Oluseun Olufowobi said the training is part of the mandate of the Commission at ensuring that workers in the Local Governments are acquainted with the day to day running of their departments.
“This is the 4th and final batch of these cadres.We have done that of Ijebu, Remo and Yewa zones, now we are rounding it off in Ogun Central”.
“We have to appreciate HIS Excellency, the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun MFR for fulfilling one of his administration’s promises to the work force and maintaining its position amongst other states in the federation.
Speaking further, Dr. Olufowobi said best hands were engaged to tutor the participants on different subject matters, calling on them to put all the training received into action when they get to their various local governments.
He also charged the Executive Officers (G.D. and Accounts) to reciprocate the good gesture of the Commission, by rendering selfless services, saying that, as the engine room of the Local Governments, they must exhibit high level of professionalism, integrity, discipline and commitment to duty wherever they find themselves.
Dr. Olufowobi then stated that the workgroup and update meetings are interactive sessions, where questions were asked from the facilitators and answers were provided.
