Police have arrested 161 persons in Kano State for committing various offences during the governorship and House of Assembly elections of March 18.

“A total of 161 suspects were arrested for vote buying, destruction of election materials, and possession of offensive weapons and drugs,’’ Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammad Gumel, told newsmen in Kano on Sunday.

“Notable among the suspects is Hon. Isyaku Ali Danja, a member of Kano State House of Assembly representing Gezawa Constituency.

“He was arrested for leading thugs to attack INEC’s results collation centre at Gezawa Local Government Council headquarters and the Police Divisional Headquarters at Gezawa,’’ he said.

Gumel assured Kano State residents of their security and safety and admonished them to continue to cooperate with the police.

He also urged the residents to avoid spreading fake news, hate speeches, and reckless celebrations that might disrupt the peace in the state.
