Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako- Oyedele made this assertion in Abeokuta at the closing ceremony of the 2023 National Industrial Skills Development Programme (NISDP) of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), Abeokuta Area Office.

Engr. Salako-Oyedele, who was represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Technical Education, Prof. Joseph Odemuyiwa said skill acquisition was essential in the society to engender growth and development .

The deputy Governor noted that education had gone beyond literacy and numeracy, but includes technical and vocational knowledge acquisition.

He said, ”every youth must jump at the opportunity of learning a skill, to curb the menace of hooliganism, unemployment, cyber crime, cultism, ritualism and many more”.

Speaking, the Director-General and Chief Executive of ITF, Sir Joseph N.ARI represented by Mr.Piwuna Zacharia lauded the effort of Governor Dapo Abiodun for being instrumental to the tremendous successes of the Fund.
said NISDP had equipped more than 500,000 Nigerians nationwide, while over 20,000 had benefited from the scheme in the State with relevant skills that would make them entrepreneurs and employers of labour.

Earlier in her address, the Deputy Director / Area Manager, ITF, Mrs. Funmi Coker pointed out that government at all levels had priotised skills acquisition, which was being embraced in the 21st century, to make the citizenry self- reliance and self- dependent.

In her remarks, the Assistant Director and Head of Training, Mrs. Oluwatosin Akinbola commended the State government for its contributions to the ITF programmes, advising the trainees to make use of their kits in a profitable way.

Highlights of the event were the issuance of certificates to the beneficiaries, alongside provision of basic working tools and start-up kits.

Responding on behalf of other trainees, Mrs.Abosede Sodeinde and Mr. Abiodun Zaccheus commended the organiser of the programme for the initiative, saying it would make them to be financially independent.
