Newly recruited constables to serve in their local government of origin -IGP
The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali, on Thursday reiterated that the newly recruited Police constables will serve in their respective local government areas.
The IGP also said that the constables will be engaged in the maintainance of law and order during the forthcoming general elections.
Salient Times report that the IGP who spoke through the Assistant Inspector General of Police, zone 8, Lokoja, Kogi State, Kunle Ashafa at the passing out ceremonies of 2022 batch of newly recruited Police constables, said the newly recruited constables will be deployed to complement officers on the forthcoming election security duties across the nation, in a bid to ensure a free, fair and credible electoral process.
The event, which took place simultaneously in four (4) Premier Colleges and Twelve (12) Police Training Schools across the country, wraps up six (6) months of rigorous, physical, and intellectual training activities and it signifies the transition of the recruits into mainstream professional Policing duties with the right orientation to meet emerging security challenges within the
dictates of the rule of law.
He said the ceremony represents “another giant stride by the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari towards repositioning the Nigeria Police Force by addressing the lingering manpower gap in the Force which has been inhibiting optimal police service delivery in this country.
“Indeed, the Federal Government’s policy of recruiting ten thousand (10,000) Police Constables annually over three (3) years shows the commitment of Mr. President to bequeathing to our beloved country a reformed and well-positioned Police Force with renewed capacity and commitment to attain its internal security mandate.
“It is noted, that after today’s event, all the graduating recruit constables will be deployed to complement officers on the forthcoming election security duties across the nation, in a bid to ensure a free, fair and credible electoral process.
“It should also be noted that the recruitment exercise was spread over the 774 Local Government Areas of the country with due regard to Federal Character considerations and in line with the directives of Mr. President.
“Following this directive, and in the attainment of our Community Policing goals, the recruits will all be posted back to their various Local Government Areas to further entrench the policing strategy of the Federal Government towards addressing communal crimes in their respective areas of purview.
He reminded the graduands that they “are coming into a reformed Police Force that is experiencing an ethical rebirth, a Force that is increasingly equipped, well-focused and properly oriented to take the war against crimes to the fortress of criminal elements that are bent on threatening our shared values for peace, security, and liberty.
“Your graduation today signifies that you are the lucky few that have been found worthy in character, learning,
physical and mental fitness to serve Nigeria, your Fatherland. I, therefore, congratulate you all and welcome you into the big, strong, and resilient Police Family and wish you a fulfilling career as you commence your service in the Nigeria Police Force.
“As you answer the national call and undertake this noble path of law enforcement, let me remind you that the bedrock of policing is discipline, and I am sure you must have been taught that the best form of discipline is self-discipline.
“Much as you have a promising and bright career ahead of you, how far you go in this career depends, to a great extent, on your character, discipline, and integrity.
While reiterating his commitment to zero-tolerance for indiscipline and any act that may be at variance with police professionalism, the IGP admonished the new constables to resolve not to engage in “any act unedifying of your good name, that of your families, and indeed the Force as you launch your policing career today.
He assured Nigerians of a new Police, which is adequately imbibed with courage, servitude and compassion is being evolved with a renewed vigor to perform its statutory duties in the enforcement of law and order as well as protection of lives and properties.
“To sustain our common vision for an efficient Police Force, I call on all citizens to be law-abiding and parents to continue to encourage their children and wards to take interest in pursuing a career in the Nigeria Police Force as that remains the most veritable platform to contribute to the path of national service.
