Also suspended is the Baale Kemta Sapon, Abeokuta, Chief Segun Oyekunle who has been asked to stay away from the council and its activities for six months.

The decision of the council was conveyed by the Oluwo Kemta and Baaye of Egbaland, High Chief Abayomi Rotimi in a release he personally signed on Thursday, 8th November, 2022.

The suspension of the Chiefs followed the roles they played individually and collectively in the installation of Mr Biola Agbefayele as Babaloja of Sapon, Abeokuta during the annual Ogboni festival held at Ogboni Kemta Chamber, Kemta Agelende, Abeokuta on November 24, 2022.

The Chiefs were alleged of undermining the authority of Oluwo by, despite Oluwo Kemta’s absence and non approval, proceeded to install Babaloja in Sapon Market, Abeokuta.

The Council has therefore, revoked all Chieftaincy titles conferred on that day with immediate effect.

In addition to being suspended, the council also placed appropriate fines on the affected Chiefs.

Chief Rotimi noted that while Kemta traditional council would continue to encourage indegenes of the town to be part of its developmental efforts in all manners and at all times, it would ensure that basic traditional approaches and due processes are firmly upheld.

He revealed that those concerned were summoned for interrogation in the spirit of fair hearing after which it was clearly established that the act was deliberately perpetrated.

To bring sanity to Chieftaincy and allied matters in the town, Chief Rotimi said the council is left with no option than to make those found culpable face the consequences.
