Daughter of former Nigeria President and former senator representing Ogun Central Senatorial District, Iyabo Obasanjo, had urged women to play active roles in strengthening the state’s democratic culture through peaceful participation and issue-based engagement.
The former commissioner of health gave the advice while meeting with women groups and some union leaders in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
Obasanjo argued that the state could only achieve sustainable development by purposefully maintaining effective policies and programs rather than abandoning them at the change of every government.
She emphasised that her aspirations stemmed from a desire to introduce reforms that prioritise women, youth and vulnerable groups while consolidating gains already made in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic development, pledging credible, inclusive and continuity-driven governance if elected governor of Ogun State in 2027.
Her words, “I am really happy for the kind of leadership APC has both in the state and at the national level. The president has made APC a party of choice and governor Dapo Abiodun has proven to be a good leader of APC in this state and I will make sure that APC ensures continuity in this state.
“Development demands continuity, institutional memory and a leadership that understands that governance is a relay, not a sprint. If entrusted with the mandate in 2027, my administration will be anchored on credibility, competence and compassion.
“We will not run a government of exclusion. Women will not merely be mobilisers during elections; they will be decision-makers at the highest levels of governance.
The former senator pledged to lead an open administration with quantifiable results and accountability.
“Leadership is about trust. My word to you is simple: transparency will not be negotiable. Budgets will not just be numbers on paper; they will translate into tangible improvements in schools, hospitals, roads and job opportunities. We will publish, we will explain, and we will be accountable.”
