…Reaffirms ambition to take over elective positions
…2023 guber candidate Sokunbi signals fresh bid

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections with a strategic stakeholders’ meeting in Ogun State, declaring its ambition to clinch elective positions across the state.

The meeting, held on Saturday at the party’s state secretariat in Abeokuta, brought together members of the State Working Committee, Local Government chairmen and representatives of the National Working Committee.

In a statement jointly signed by the State Chairperson, Ambassador Yeye Olufunke Olanrewaju, and the State Secretary, Mr. Olamide Emmanuel, the party said the gathering was convened to reposition ADP for what it described as a decisive electoral outing in 2027.

According to the statement, the meeting focused on strengthening internal structures, expanding grassroots engagement and presenting credible candidates capable of winning public trust.

Stakeholders reiterated the party’s resolve to “take over Ogun State in all elective positions” during the 2027 polls, noting that early preparation and unity of purpose would be critical to achieving that objective.

The chairperson described the session as “a vital step towards consolidating our structures and building a formidable platform that reflects the aspirations of the people of Ogun State.”

She commended members of the State Working Committee, Local Government leaders and national officers for their participation, saying their presence underscored collective commitment to the party’s growth.

A key highlight of the meeting was the formal introduction of a Southwest Committee, which party leaders said would coordinate strategy and foster synergy across states in the geopolitical zone.

Participants also deliberated on prospective aspirants for various elective offices and the need to ensure transparent processes that would inspire confidence among members and the electorate.

Hon. Olanrewaju Sokunbi, the party’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections, used the occasion to formally declare his intention to contest the governorship seat again in 2027.

Sokunbi expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, stating that lessons from previous elections would guide a more robust and inclusive campaign strategy.

In the same vein, Hon. Omoyayi from Ifo Local Government Area declared his intention to run for the Ifo Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

Hon. Olorundare also announced plans to seek election into the Ogun State House of Assembly, alongside other aspirants who signified interest in different positions.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to engaging the electorate across Ogun State, promising to articulate people-focused policies and offer what it termed a “credible alternative” ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Leaders present at the meeting included the incoming gubernatorial aspirant, Hon. Sokunbi; the National Leader, Hon. Com. Olalekan Hassan; two South West executive members; three senatorial chairmen; and the 20 local government party chairmen across the state.

They called for sustained unity and grassroots mobilisation, expressing confidence that a cohesive structure and early groundwork would position the ADP as a major contender in the state’s political landscape.
