Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will support only candidates who align with President Bola Tinubu’s vision in the February 21 FCT Area Council elections, insisting that opponents of the President will not win.

Wike made the declaration on Saturday night in Abuja at the 60th birthday celebration of Senator Sandy Onor, describing his stance as a duty he owes to the administration he serves.
“I have a responsibility to support any candidate who supports President Tinubu to win,” Wike said.

“It is also my duty to ensure that any candidate who does not support the President does not win. I owe no one an apology for that position.”
The FCT minister said political loyalty to Tinubu’s agenda, rather than party affiliation, would determine his backing in the council elections.

Speaking on the celebrant, Wike described Onor as a dependable ally and trusted friend, noting that their relationship had endured difficult moments.
“I will continue to work with you because I know that even in my absence, you will not abandon my family,” he said.

Reading the citation, Prof. Anthony Eyang said Onor, born on February 14, 1966, in Ikom, Cross River State, rose from academia at the University of Calabar to national politics through discipline, scholarship and service.
Chairman of the planning committee, Senator Philip Aduda, said the celebration was a thanksgiving for Onor’s life as a scholar and politician.

Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, representing former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, described the celebrant as an icon and a leader prepared for higher responsibility.
Former Attorney-General of the Federation, Kalu Agabi (SAN), praised Onor as courageous and intellectually grounded, while Prof. Dave Imbua presented a Festschrift in his honour.

The book was unveiled by Ikpeazu on behalf of Wike and associates, alongside a reported ₦50 million contribution.
