This was confirmed in a statement by the Yobe State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, released on Saturday, which indicated that the suspect, Khadija Jamilu, is still at large.

“Following the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention.

“He was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is currently receiving treatment”, SP Abdulkarim said.

According to him, efforts are in top gear to arrest the fleeing suspect, while investigations into the case are ongoing.

In the statement, the Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, who condemned the act, stressed that marriage should be built on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance.

He also emphasised that marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation.
