….Pledges grassroots mobilisation, good governance
….Move seen as strategic boost ahead of future elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has received a significant political boost following the formal registration of Prince Kazeem Adeyanju Olanrewaju Bakinson, the Aare Mayegun of Owu Kingdom and convener of the Ajiboshin Platform.

Bakinson, who currently serves in the Lagos State Government, registered as a member of the ruling party at the Oke-Ago Owu Ward in Abeokuta North Local Government Area on Sunday.

Party stakeholders described the development as a strategic gain, coming amid fresh political realignments and ongoing efforts to strengthen the APC’s grassroots presence across the state.

Speaking after collecting his membership slip, Bakinson said his decision to join the APC was informed by the party’s commitment to good governance, grassroots development and progressive leadership in the South-West and beyond.

“I am joining the APC because of its record of people-oriented governance and reforms,” he said. “My goal is to contribute meaningfully to strengthening the party at the grassroots and to support policies that improve the lives of our people.”

Political observers noted that Bakinson’s entry into the APC could reshape political dynamics within Abeokuta North and the wider Owu axis, given his traditional standing and professional influence.

Analysts also pointed to his leadership of the Ajiboshin Platform, a socio-political network with strong grassroots reach, as a factor that could further consolidate the party’s base.

Sources within the APC said the registration forms part of broader moves to attract influential figures as the party positions itself ahead of future electoral contests in Ogun State.

They added that the growing influx of prominent personalities into the party reflects increasing confidence in its leadership and political prospects.

Bakinson’s membership slip, dated February 1, 2026, listed Ogun State, Abeokuta North Local Government Area and Oke-Ago Owu Ward as his official political base.

Observers said the move formally signals his return to active grassroots politics in his ancestral community and could trigger renewed political calculations within the Owu bloc and across Ogun State.

With political actors already repositioning, Bakinson’s defection is expected to add fresh momentum to the evolving political landscape in the state.
