Mustapha Kwankwaso, son of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano, has resigned as commissioner for youth and sports development and as a member of the state executive council.
His resignation comes days after Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, formally resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
In a statement released on Monday, Mustapha described his decision as one taken “with a heavy heart”, while expressing gratitude to Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the people of Kano State.
He highlighted the experiences and lessons gained during his tenure, thanking the governor for the trust reposed in him.
He prayed for continued blessings on Kano state and wished the government and its people success moving forward.
“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve,” Mustapha said.
“I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come.”
Mustapha did not cite specific reasons for stepping down in the statement.
Earlier today, Yusuf Kofarmata, commissioner of science, technology and innovation in Kano, also resigned from his position, citing concerns about the direction of the state government.
“I cannot continue to work under a government that has derailed from the ideology that brought it to power,” Kofarmata said.
