A 30-year-old man identified as Kazeem Solola has being sentenced to three years imprisonment for assault and pouring hot palm oil on his wife.
Solola was said to have engaged in an argument with his wife, Mutiat Solola, who was cooking and in the process, angrily poured hot oil on her neck, body and also stabbed her.
Appearing before an Abeokuta Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting at Isabo on Wednesday, he was convicted on a two-count charge of assault and causing grievous bodily harm.
He had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge. However the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. K. Araba, held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and found the defendant guilty as charged.
Delivering her judgment, Araba sentenced Solola to two years imprisonment on count one and three years imprisonment on count two, with no option of fine.
She ordered that the sentences should run concurrently and take effect from the date the defendant was first arraigned before the court.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the offence was committed on January 18, 2025, at about 9:00 pm, at Ring Owode Egba, in Abeokuta.
Olu-Balogun said the defendant caused grievous bodily harm that resulted to permanent injury on the victim.
According to the prosecutor, the offence, contravened sections 355 and 335 of the Criminal Code, Vol. I, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
