• Senator dismisses Labour Party’s fraud claims as baseless
• Says digital process will end inflated party registers

The Senator representing Ogun Central and Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Afolabi Salisu, has said the All Progressives Congress (APC), through its ongoing electronic registration of members, is setting a national benchmark for transparency and effective party administration.
Salisu also faulted the Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) for describing the APC’s digital membership registration exercise as fraudulent, describing the allegation as “baseless, reckless and politically motivated.”
The senator spoke on Thursday after flagging off the APC e-registration exercise in his Opeji Ward, Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State.
He also inspected the ongoing reconstruction of the Arakanga–Mawuko–Opeji road, which he facilitated, and pledged to ensure its completion within record time.
Questioning the basis of the LP’s claims, Salisu said it was curious that individuals who were not part of the exercise would “misinform the public and peddle falsehood.”
“Rather than making reckless allegations, the Labour Party should focus on resolving its internal challenges and clarifying its leadership structure,” he said.
Explaining the rationale behind the e-registration, the senator said the exercise was designed to enable the party to accurately determine its true membership strength nationwide.
He noted that unlike previous manual registration exercises, which were prone to manipulation, the digital process guarantees accuracy, credibility and verifiable data.
“In the past, party registers were opened physically and members wrote their names. That system often encouraged unhealthy competition and inflation of figures by wards and local governments seeking to appear numerically strong,”
Salisu said. “The digital approach eliminates such practices.”
He added that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda, stressing that the administration’s drive for transparency extends beyond economic reforms to the political process.
“This e-registration confirms that the reform agenda of President Tinubu is also about strengthening democratic processes. With APC providing leadership in this area, other political parties will eventually follow,” he said.
Salisu further highlighted the integration of national digital infrastructure into the exercise, including the use of the National Identification Number (NIN) and voter registration details.
“My registration took only a few minutes. By providing my NIN and voter details, the system automatically retrieved my data, ensuring consistency across party, NIMC and INEC databases,” he explained, adding that the development has far-reaching implications for identity management and national security.
According to him, accurate data on party members would strengthen grassroots mobilisation and deepen internal democracy. “When we truly know our members, they become not just voters but ambassadors and advocates of the party,” he said.
The senator maintained that the APC remained “methodical, strategic and deliberate” in its operations and would continue to build on its ideals beyond 2027.
“We earned the mandate of Nigerians in 2023 and we are not taking it for granted. We are not relying on incumbency alone, but working to improve performance ahead of 2027 and beyond,” he said.
Salisu urged party members to participate actively in the registration exercise, noting that the APC remained open to new members.
He also commended the party’s leadership at both national and state levels, citing President Tinubu and Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.
Reacting again to the LP’s allegations, the senator said: “These claims are unsubstantiated and should be discarded.
It is irresponsible to condemn a process one was never part of. APC is embracing technology in line with global best practices to promote transparency, accountability and internal democracy.”
Recall that the Ogun State Chairman of the Labour Party, Chief Oluwabukola Soyoye, had on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, alleged that the APC e-registration was aimed at inflating membership figures in the state to project continued dominance and digitally manipulate the 2027 elections.
