Calls for United Opposition to End APC Rule in Ogun State
The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has accused the All Progressives Congress of using its ongoing electronic membership registration exercise to manipulate the 2027 governorship election in the state.
The party, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its state chairman, Mrs Oluwabukola Soyoye, described the exercise as a “digital scam” allegedly designed to create a false impression of popular support for the Dapo Abiodun-led administration.
“The so-called statewide e-registration being promoted by the APC is not a genuine membership exercise. It is a digital scam meant to mislead the public into believing that the ruling party still enjoys the support of the people of Ogun State,” Soyoye said.
She alleged that the ruling party had resorted to electronic registration because it could no longer mobilise citizens for open and physical political activities.
“The APC is running away from the people. They cannot face the electorate physically because they know they have failed in governance. That is why they are hiding behind computers to fabricate figures ahead of the 2027 governorship election,” she added.
The Labour Party chairman further accused the Abiodun administration of economic mismanagement, claiming that the state had received about ₦6.7tn in federal allocations in the last six years and eight months, in addition to funds meant for the 20 local governments.
“Despite these huge allocations, the people of Ogun State are becoming poorer by the day, while a few politically connected individuals have allegedly amassed enormous wealth,” she said.
Soyoye also accused the state government of mismanaging housing projects, alleging that trillions of naira had been spent on projects that benefited political appointees and associates rather than ordinary residents.
“Our state economy has been severely damaged. Over ₦3tn was allegedly channelled through the Ministry of Housing under the guise of state housing projects, while civil servants and low-income earners remain unable to access affordable housing,” she claimed.
The LP chairman further alleged that the state government had continued to divert local government funds through the joint account system, despite the Supreme Court judgment on local government autonomy and directives from the Federal Government.
“It is on record that in December 2025, the 20 local governments received over ₦10.9bn in allocation, yet more than 70 per cent was allegedly taken by the state government, leaving little for grassroots development,” she said.
The party also lamented what it described as the worsening welfare of civil servants in the state.
“Ogun civil servants are now living under severe economic hardship. Official quarters were demolished, lands commercialised, and houses sold at prices that are completely beyond the reach of ordinary workers,” Soyoye said.
On the e-registration exercise, the LP alleged that the APC was using the digital platform to inflate its membership strength and create a misleading narrative ahead of the next general election.
“What is happening is not a political exercise but a fraudulent digital operation designed to manufacture legitimacy for a government that has lost the confidence of the people,” she stated.
The Labour Party called on opposition leaders in the state, including Segun Showunmi, Oladipupo Adebutu and Jimmy Lawal, to unite and form a common front against the ruling party ahead of 2027.
“We are calling on all well-meaning opposition leaders to come together and rescue Ogun State from the APC administration,” she said.
The party also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission, security agencies and civil society organisations to closely monitor political activities in the state to prevent what it described as digital manipulation of the electoral process.
Reaffirming the Labour Party’s commitment to good governance, Soyoye said the party would continue to offer a credible alternative to the APC in the state.
“The Labour Party remains committed to transparency, accountability and people-centred development. We call on civil servants and organised labour to support our vision as we work towards 2027,” she added.
