Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Dr. Tunde Lemo, CFR, has described the late Madam Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo as a woman of remarkable strength, deep conviction and unwavering faith in God, whose life served as a rallying point and source of encouragement, guidance and unity to many.

In his condolence message to the Onabanjo family and the people of Ogun State, Dr. Lemo said the passing of Mama Lucia marked the end of an era defined by service, humility and faith.

“Today, with hearts full of gratitude, we thank God for blessing Mama Onabanjo with a long, meaningful and fulfilled life of 100 years — a life that left an enduring legacy of love, service and faithful stewardship to the people of Ogun State,” he said.

Recalling her personal virtues, Lemo described Mama Onabanjo as a devout Catholic and committed worshipper whose life was deeply rooted in prayer, humility and service.

“Her faith was not only professed but lived daily, guiding her actions and shaping her character. Even after the passing of her beloved husband, Madam Lucia Onabowale Onabanjo continued steadfastly in service to Ogun State, carrying forward their shared commitment with grace, resilience and quiet strength,” he noted.

According to Lemo, Mama Lucia was more than a leader to many; she was a mother in the truest sense.

“To countless individuals, she was more than a leader; she was a mother, offering care, counsel and compassion without distinction. Her wealth of experience and wisdom was deeply admirable, and she generously shared it with all who sought her guidance,” he said.

Lemo further observed that Mama Onabanjo possessed a rare gift of seeing the best in people and embraced everyone with an open heart.

“She lived among her people, not apart from them. Her home was a place of warmth, welcome and belonging — always open to family, friends and even strangers,” he added.

Concluding, Dr. Lemo said the life of Mama Lucia Onabanjo was a testament to faith in action, love without limits and service without expectation of reward.

“Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit, values and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts and lives of all she touched,” he said, praying that her soul rest in perfect peace and that her exemplary life would continue to inspire generations.
