Eleven suspects have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 29-year-old Ahmad Lawan, popularly known as Soje, an alleged renowned Sara-Suka member in Bauchi State, while police continue to hunt for other fleeing accomplices.

According to the spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, CSP Ahmad Muhammad Wakil, the incident occurred on October 2, 2025, at around 8:25 am, when two unidentified men visited Lawan’s residence in Sabon Kasuwa.

Upon answering the door, Lawan was reportedly stabbed in the chest, and the attackers fled the scene.

The victim was immediately rushed to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, ATBUTH, Bauchi, where he was pronounced dead. His body was subsequently released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites.

Preliminary investigations by the police identified Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Duduwa, and Abubakar Mohammed as the prime suspects.

Following the burial, tensions escalated when angry youths allegedly set fire to the residence of one of the suspects.

A combined police team from the Rapid Response Squad, Operation Restore Peace, and D Division reportedly promptly intervened to prevent further violence.

During the course of the investigation, Abubakar Ibrahim was later apprehended by security operatives in Mararraban Liman-Katagum after attempting to flee. However, while transporting the suspect to the police station, irate youths intercepted the suspect at Kwanar Kwaila and attacked him with cutlasses. As a result, he sustained fractures to both hands and a deep cut on his head.

Upon receiving the distress call, police operatives quickly mobilised to the scene, dispersed the hostile crowd, promptly rescued the suspect, and thereafter evacuated him to ATBUTH for medical attention.

Meanwhile, 11 suspects were arrested in connection with the crime. The suspects include Abdulwahab Adamu, Nuruddeen Idris, Kabiru Saidu, Ibrahim Hamza, Abdullahi Isah, Abdulrasheed Garba, Abdulwahab Abubakar, Kabiru Muhammad, Musa Abdullahi, Umar Muhammad, and Umar Ali. All are undergoing thorough investigations to determine their individual involvement.

According to CSP Wakil, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured that the police will take decisive action against anyone disrupting peace in the state.

In the meantime, tactical teams have been deployed across the state to ensure law enforcement and maintain order, said CSP Wakil
