A 21-year-old nursing mother, Maryam Muntari, has allegedly stabbed her neighbor, Ahmed Kalo, to death after he reportedly attempted to rape her in Idoji-Okene, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, October 23, 2025, at about 5:30 a.m.

According to residents, Maryam, who is married to a long-time neighbor of the deceased, had gone to Kalo’s house to drop jerrycan of water she had helped him carry after running into him at the general fetching point when the tragic event unfolded.

A community member, Enezi Nuhu, told reporters that 65-year-old Kalo allegedly locked the door after Maryam entered his house and dragged her into his bedroom, threatening her with a knife.

“Sensing danger, the nursing woman reportedly pretended to comply and followed him quietly to his bedroom. Thinking she had given in, the man dropped the knife to take off his clothes. She quickly picked it up and stabbed him,” Nuhu said.

Kalo’s cry for help reportedly drew the attention of neighbors, but he died before help could reach him.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kogi State Police Command, CSP William Aya, said the suspect had been taken into custody for further investigation.

“The incident happened at about 5:30 a.m. at Idoji quarters, Okene. One Ahmed Isah, also known as Kalo, was stabbed to death in his room by one Maryam Muntari, aged 21, of Idoji-Okene,” Aya stated.

He said the body of the deceased had been deposited at the Reference Hospital for autopsy, while investigations were ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the killing.
