Team of the Nigeria Police Force in Abakaliki Command’s headquarters has eliminated a notorious criminal by name Isaiah Okoronkwo in Ishielu local government area of the state.
The state command Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu made this known in a press statement issued on Wednesday and was made available to journalists in Abakaliki the state capital on Wednesday.
Ukandu who stated that the deceased who was on the wanted list of the command, was killed by operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad.
He said the command acting on credible intelligence, launched a clearance operation on the criminals’ hideout located in Iyonu Forest, Ishielu LGA.
Items recovered from the gang were two AK-47 rifles.
According to him, “In continuation of its sustained onslaught against violent crimes in Ebonyi State, the Ebonyi State police Command has recorded another major breakthrough.
“This follows the recent surge in armed robbery incidents and criminal activities in Iyonu community in Ishielu Local Government Area.
“On 29th August, 2025, operatives of the Command’s Crack Squad, acting on credible intelligence, launched a clearance operation on the criminals’ hideout located in Iyonu Forest, Ishielu LGA.
“During the operation, the hoodlums engaged the operatives in a gun battle. The police gallantly responded, subduing the criminals.
“In the ensuing encounter, the syndicate’s kingpin, Isaiah Okoronkwo, who had long been on the Command’s wanted list, was neutralised. Two AK-47 rifles were recovered during the operation,” he stated.
Also, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adaku Uche-Anya, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and painstaking intelligence work that led to this success.
CP Uche-Anya further assured residents of the Command’s mandate towards protecting lives and property in the state.
