The Nigeria Association of Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Bayelsa State Council has issued a final reminder to its members regarding a 7-day nationwide warning strike.
According to the statement the strike, scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 6, 2025, is in response to the Federal Government’s lack of response to the association’s demands for improved welfare and fair treatment.
Recall that the NANNM National Headquarters had issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, which expired on July 29, 2025, with no positive response from the government, the association has directed all nurses and midwives across federal, state, and local government healthcare institutions to proceed with the warning strike.
The State Secretary, Nurse Fii Tornubari Samuel, has therefore called on all unit councils to ensure total compliance with the strike directive, warning that any act of sabotage will be viewed as a serious breach of collective resolve.
The strike according to the association is seen as a necessary measure to uphold the dignity, rights, and welfare of all nurses and midwives across the nation.
The association appreciates the commitment and solidarity of its members and emphasizes the importance of cooperation in achieving their professional goals.
The statement reads:”
This is to formally remind all Unit Councils that the 15-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government by the National Headquarters of NANNM expires at midnight on Tuesday, 29th July, 2025.
” Regrettably, the Federal Government has not responded positively to our demands for improved welfare and fair treatment.
” In accordance with the directives of the National Executive Council (NEC) (Ref NANNM/ADM/41/V1/77), all Nurses and Midwives across all healthcare institutions-Federal, State, and Local Government-are to proceed on a 7-day nationwide warning strike, effective from 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, 30th July to Tuesday, 6th August, 2025.
” You are hereby directed to ensure total compliance by all members in your Unit Branch.
This industrial action is in the best interest of our profession and any act of sabotage will be viewed as a serious breach of our collective resolve.
” We appreciate your commitment and solidarity in this critical and historic period. Your cooperation is vital to the success of this action and the advancement of our professional cause.
” Together, we shall continue to uphold the dignity, rights, and welfare of all Nurses and Midwives across the nation.”
