The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-South region has thrown its weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, adopting him as the zone’s sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The resolution was reached on Saturday during the party’s Zonal Stakeholders Meeting held in Benin City, the Edo State capital.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting and read by Chief Victor Giadom, the APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), the party also unanimously adopted all four sitting APC governors in the region as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 governorship elections in their respective states.

The governors affected by the resolution are:

Senator Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State, who currently serves as the South-South APC Zonal Coordinator,

Senator Monday Okpebholo of Edo State,

Governor Timipre Sylva (expected) of Bayelsa State (if declared winner following legal contest), and

Any future APC governor in Akwa Ibom or Delta States, if applicable before 2027.

The motion to adopt the communique was moved by the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, and seconded by Senator Adams Oshiomhole, who represents Edo North Senatorial District. The meeting was presided over by the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, who described the resolution as a demonstration of unity, loyalty, and strategic political alignment in the zone.

In his address, Chief Giadom emphasized that the South-South zone was committed to consolidating its political relevance within the APC and the national polity, noting that President Tinubu had shown exemplary leadership, economic resilience, and bold reforms since assuming office in 2023.

“The South-South stakeholders have resolved to stand firmly behind President Tinubu and ensure that he completes his good works in another four-year mandate. The same support will be extended to our governors who have shown capacity, development-oriented leadership, and grassroots connection,” Giadom stated.

Senate President Akpabio, in his remarks, commended the party leaders for their strategic foresight and reaffirmed that the South-South remains a critical pillar in the Tinubu administration.

“This endorsement is not just about politics, it is about progress and continuity. We have a President who is delivering on infrastructure, economic stabilization, and national unity. The South-South cannot afford to stay on the sidelines,” Akpabio said.

The meeting was attended by key political stakeholders including ministers from the region, state party chairmen, National Assembly members, commissioners, local government chairmen, and other grassroots mobilizers.

With this resolution, the APC South-South zone sets the tone for early political alignment ahead of 2027, signaling a strategy to consolidate its influence and deliver strong electoral outcomes across the region.
