A High Court in Lafia, Nasarawa State, has sentenced Oluwatimileyin Ajayi to death by hanging for the murder and dismemberment of Salome Adaidu, a 24-year-old National Youth Service Corps member.
Justice Simon Aboki handed down the judgment, finding Ajayi guilty of culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria.
The convict was charged by the police for culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code of Northern Nigeria. He was arrested on January 12, 2025, while attempting to dispose of Salome’s head after killing and dismembering her body parts at his house in Papalana axis, New Karshi, in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Ajayi’s heinous crime was sparked by jealousy, as he discovered Adaidu’s chats with other men on her phone.
In a shocking interview according to Channels TV, Ajayi confessed to the crime, stating, “I killed her because we don’t have each other all the time… She hides most of the things from me most time. I got to know from her phone. I saw her chats with other guys on the phone, that was why I decided.”
When asked if he had any regrets, Ajayi callously replied, “I don’t have any regrets because life is reciprocal that is what I thought, if you must do something to someone, you have to be reciprocal with that person.”
This lack of remorse likely weighed heavily in the court’s decision to impose the death penalty.
