The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ondo State chapter, has lashed out at Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his alleged stance against the completion of projects initiated by his late boss, former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

With the opposition party describing government as a continuum, PDP emphasised that Aiyedatiwa, who was a key part of the late Akeredolu’s administration as deputy governor, ought to prioritise the projects.

Ondo State PDP in a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Leye Igbabo, stated that the action of the governor could be likened to political vendetta against those within Akeredolu’s administration who moved against his moves to assume the position of governor while his erstwhile boss was incapacitated.

Igbabo, who revealed the abandoned projects to include Ijoka Road construction project, Alagbaka Extension Road project, Onyearugbulem Junction Flyover bridges, among others, stressed that nothing ought to have delayed the completion of the projects with the resources at Aiyedatiwa’s disposal.

While also describing as illogical the decision of Aiyedatiwa to not to complete the road project on his street at Alagbaka, Akure, the state capital, the opposition emphasised that the governor is displeased with those handling the project within Akeredolu’s camp.

The party urged the governor to exhibit large-heartedness like the biblical David, who overlooked the action of his brothers against him, particularly considering the circumstances that brought him to power.

“The available facts showed that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was not ready to go on with the projects because of his clear intention to destroy his predecessor’s legacy on the altar of political vendetta against the late governor and his camp.

“We can feel this level of animosity towards his predecessor’s camp such that the governor even refused to complete the ongoing 3 km Alagbaka Extension road project in front of his own house.

“We view such a stance as puerile, immature, and ungrateful, and therefore caution the Governor to exercise restraint in the use of naked powers, as absolute powers belong to God.

Meanwhile, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state has described the position of the PDP as false, admonishing the opposition party to stop spreading misinformation and focus on internal issues confronting the party.

According to the Director of Media and Publicity of Ondo APC, Steve Otaloro,
“It is nonsensical for the PDP to suggest that Governor Aiyedatiwa would undermine the legacy he helped build by neglecting ongoing projects.
