Civil Society Group Demands Investigation into Alleged Fraud Against CMD, FMC Abeokuta,
….all issues raised had been thrashed by FHC since 2022 – FMC PRO
The Centre for Anti-Corruption & Open Leadership (CACOL) has called for thorough investigation of the Medical Director of Federal Medical Centre, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, Prof. Abdus Samiu Adewale Musa-Olomu, over allegations of corruption.
The call was contained in a petition by CACOL, dated 5th May, 2025, addressed to Hon. Dr. Dayo Israel, Board Chairman, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the petition signed by its Chairman, Debo Adeniran, Prof. Musa-Olomu was accused of
age falsification, mismanagement of public funds and abuse of office.
Copies of the petition sent to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare,
Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Inspector General of Police, Chairman, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission,
Director General, Department of State Security, Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoCSF), was titled, “Demand for thorough, due diligence investigation of the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Abdus Samiu Adewale Musa-Olomu
It reads, “sir, for some time now, we have been pursuing this case with the above subject matter. We strongly believe that any matter that has to do with public health such as that of Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, should be treated with utmost urgency since the issues that are involved bother on corruption, which could lower the quality of services that citizens received from the Centre, hence the implications of bad leadership, mal-administration, fraudulent acts and criminalities can jeopardize the seven-points agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led APC Federal Government”.
“Sir, we would like to draw your attention to our letters addressed to the office of the Honourable Minister of Health and Social Welfare, copies of which was sent to various relevant authorities dated Monday, 4th July, 2022. And a first reminder on Wednesday, 4th October, 2023 and the second
reminder on Tuesday, 30th July, 2024 respectively on the the above subject matter”.
“Sir, we wish to bring to your attention our agitation towards zero tolerance bothering on corruption
allegations levelled against Professor Abdus – Samiu Adewale Musa-Olomu, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“Thereafter, we received a reply to our letter with Ref. No.SMH. 587/S. 26/163 dated 19th August, 2022 wherein we were assured that the matter is being looked into and the outcome of the ministry’s findings including possible action taken
would be communicated to our office in due course”.
“To our utmost dismay, our organization has not received any further correspondence on the matter till date. Having waited for official report from the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) for over two years, thus suggesting to us an
attempt to “sweep the matter under the carpet.”
“In the light of the above, we strongly demand for a thorough diligent investigation of the allegations of age falsification, mismanagement of public funds on the refurbished CT Scan machine purchased at the price of new one (N240m) which broke down four months after installation and also abuse of office by employing his biological son Muhammed Babatunde Musa, a Mechanical Engineer in the Works Department of the Centre and also grant him study leave with pay to an
European country, when his appointment has not been confirmed”.
“In addition to the above, it is also important to inform you further that the matter had attracted the attention of anti-graft agencies including Independent Corrupt
Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and also the Federal Criminal Investigation
Department (FCID)”.
“To this end, we would want to implore you to use your good office as the new Board Chairman of the Centre and the representative of the President to commence a thorough investigation into these allegations if they had not been investigated and if investigation is on-going, we hereby request for update on the
matter”.
“Our organization is keeping vigilance on Professor Abdus Samiu Adewale Musa-Olomu’s records and his administrative leadership at FMC Abeokuta, for about eight years”.
“Moreover, we are also aware of the end of his second term and final tenure in office in few weeks’ time despite the fact that he is expected to proceed on pre-retirement leave as a two term Director, according to Public Service Rules (PSR) 2021, revised edition No.020909 which states that “A Director or its equivalent by whatever nomenclature it is described in MDA’s shall compulsorily retire upon serving on the post and a Permanent Secretary shall hold office for a term of four years and renewable for a further term of four years subject to satisfactory performance and no more”.
“Finally, we would appreciate your leading role in the efforts aimed at sanitizing our public service from corrupt leaders and their accomplices, especially now that
you are the current Chairman, Board of Management of Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta and to also display the good intentions of Mr. President at the Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta”.
“In view of the above, we believe you will leave no stone unturned while we await your actions/response on this”.
Reacting to the petition, Head of Information and Public Relations
Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta,
Dr. Segun Orisajo, said all issues raised by CACOL had been adequately attended to and thrashed by a Federal High Court sitting in Abeokuta since April, 2022.
Orisajo said, the FMC sees the petition as “a sheer waste of precious time joining issues with the organization on this issue”.
He noted that the eight years tenure of Prof. Musa-Olomu as the Medical Director, of FMC had been most productive, focused and result-oriented as widely acclaimed by numerous members of the public and staff, despite several bottlenecks and diversionary attempts.
“As the Medical Director winds up his eight years tenure in about three weeks time, we urge CACOL to have faith in our judiciary, anti graft agencies and Federal Ministry of Health officials, which it cited had been on top of its agitation as late as 2022 when it made the petition public”.
