Bobos Cult Leader, Killed By His Group Over Power Struggle – C.P Bayelsa

The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed that the gruesome killing of Olotu Wanemi Omubo, the notorious leader of the Bobos cult group, was carried out by his fellow cult members in a violent internal power struggle.
Olotu Wanemi Omubo, an indigene of Nembe in Nembe Local Government Area and a beneficiary of the Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), was reportedly the leader of the Phase 2 Amnesty beneficiaries in Bayelsa State. He was gunned down last Thursday along Good News Street in Azikoro Town, Yenagoa, the state capital.
While initial speculation linked his death to the ongoing rivalry between the Bobos and the Vikings confraternities, others suspected that hired assassins may have been responsible, possibly as retaliation for previous cult-related killings. However, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Francis Idu, dispelled those notions during a media briefing on Monday.
According to CP Idu, intelligence reports indicate that Omubo was murdered by his own gang members in a bid to install new leadership and benefit from his elimination.
“95 percent of the intelligence available to us shows that his death resulted from intra-cult rivalry over leadership. His own members took him out and tried to frame it as inter-cult conflict to profit from the fallout,” the CP stated.
He further described the late cult leader as a repeat offender with a history of criminal activities. “The deceased was previously involved in nefarious acts, including illegal gun possession. He was controversially released following influence by external parties, which, I’ve always warned, breeds disastrous consequences,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner announced the arrest of over nine individuals in connection with various crimes ranging from cultism and kidnapping to armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms, and murder.
In one incident, 50-year-old Mohammed Adamu from Gombe State and Adiamakubo Orubo, 37, were arrested over the disappearance of Ashiru Ishiaku, 26, a Kano State native, along with his tricycle on April 29, 2025.
In another case, David Ngo, 36, a member of the notorious Island cult group and a native of Brass Local Government Area, was arrested for allegedly stabbing one Goodwill Ovuru to death on April 16, 2025, at Agudama-Ekpetiama.
Additionally, a robbery suspect, Monday Daniel, 28, was apprehended in Onopa community, Yenagoa, for allegedly participating in an armed robbery at the residence of one Amarachi Emeachi near Revenue House, where a group of four armed men stole her Redmi phone valued at N180,000.
On May 4, 2025, Endurance Odambe Chinedu, 24, from Ndokwa East, Delta State, was arrested in Agbia community with ten live cartridges. During interrogation, he confessed to being a member of the Black Axe confraternity, also known as Aye. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a battle axe, a black beret bearing the cult’s insignia, and a crusher.
