FCT Education launches Transformative Entrepreneurship, Innovation Program for Teachers 

The Federal Capital Territory Boards and Department of the Education Secretariat in a major stride towards educational transformation has organized a two-day training programme for FCT teachers on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education.

Declaring the program opened at Government Science Secondary School, Maitama, Pyakkasa, the Secretary for Education Dr. Danlami Hayyo emphasized the urgent need to reform traditional education systems to meet the demands of the 21st century.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Education Secretariat Mrs Joy Okeke noted that the world, currently driven by the Fourth Industrial Revolution, requires learners who are innovative, adaptable, and entrepreneurial.

He explained that the FCT Administration is reimagining education to produce students who can think independently, create confidently, and compete globally.

Dr. Hayyo added ,’ To achieve this vision, we must first empower our teachers, the bedrock of our education system.”

He expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister FCT, Bar Ezenwo Nyesom Wike (CON) for his visionary leadership and taking the Education Sector to an enviable height in FCT.

Dr. Hayyo also commended the Directors under the FCT Education Secretariat, international partners from Brunel University Business School, United Kingdom, and the Nigeria-Brunel Innovation Team for their unwavering support in making the programme a reality.

He urged the Teachers to approach the training with openness and enthusiasm, stressing that the future of FCT students rests largely in their hands.

Also speaking in the same vein,the Permanent Secretary, Education represented by Hajia Hajara Alayande described the workshop training as a transformational initiative designed to reshape education in the FCT.

She emphasized the need to empower students through innovative teaching methods, preparing them early to become critical thinkers and future entrepreneurs.

Welcoming the Participants, the Director Department of Science Technology and Innovation,Mr. Kolawole Olobashola said, Capacity Building is key to continuous learning process which will enhance their abilities to perform creditably in their various schools .

In an overview presentation ,the Director/Secretary FCT Secondary Education Board, Dr Sani Ladan said,the initiative is deliberate response to the rapidly evolving global economy that demands not just academic knowledge but also creativity, critical thinking, problem – solving and entrepreneurial mindset.

He stated that the program aligns with the FCT’s educational direction with global trends by advancing innovation and Entrepreneurship right from the classroom.

He noted that the training will address three critical needs which are Equipping Teachers with 21st century skills by empowering them with practical knowledge and pedagogical tools to deliver to deliver Entrepreneurship education, also curriculum integration of innovation and Entrepreneurship embedding innovation into everyday teaching and learning activities across all subjects as well as community and
industry collaboration with artisans, entrepreneurs and business mentors in order to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real- world experience.

The Participants who came from various Schools cut across the Six Area Councils acknowledged the need for such intensive training which will further improve the quality of teaching and producing students that are self sufficient and resourceful thereby adding economic values to themselves and the society and will engage with experts from the academia , business and development sectors on key topics.

The well attended two day training is a collaborative effort involving the FCT Secondary Education Board,the Department of Science Technology and Innovation , FCT Universal Basic Education Board as well as international partners from Brunel University Business School,UK as well as the Canban group.
