The incident reportedly occurred in Ise-Ekiti, sparking outrage after a video shared by the victim’s daughter went viral on social media.

In the video, the girl claimed the officer — said to be an orderly to a local government chairman — stormed their home with another officer after a quarrel between his girlfriend and her younger brother at school.

“He went on to stab my dad with his fellow police officer because his girlfriend was arguing with my brother at school,” she narrated in the video shared on X via Yoruba Times on Friday.

“They went to our house to deal with my brother, but on getting there, they didn’t meet my brother; they met my dad and elder brother.”

According to the girl, the officers proceeded to assault her father, resulting in a stabbing that left him seriously injured.

In response, the Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the incident and revealed that the officer had been taken into custody.

Police spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday, said in a statement released via the Police Complaint X account that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), to handle the case with urgency.

“The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, upon noticing the complaint, directed the DC CID to take over the case and ensure a thorough investigation is conducted,” the statement read.

“Meanwhile, the officer in question has been taken into custody for investigation and other necessary actions. The command is calling on everyone, especially the family members of the victim, to be calm, as nothing short of justice will be delivered in this case as soon as possible,” SP Abutu added.
