Fubara Will Return To Rivers Gov’t House, Says Tompolo

Ex-militant leader leader in the Niger Delta region, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, has expressed confidence that the suspended Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, will be reinstated.

Ekpemupolo made this declaration during celebrations to mark his birthday anniversary at the weekend in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri South-West local government area of Delta State.

Recall that Fubara, his deputy and members of the State House of Assembly, were suspended via state of emergency proclamation on March 18, 2025 by President Bola Tinubu, who appointed former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), to run the affairs of the state for initial six months as sole administrator.

While addressing guests at the event, Tompolo underscored the unity and resilience of the Ijaw Nation, stating: “We have only one state, and our focus remains on Bayelsa. If you think power lies solely in being president or governor, and you attempt to undermine Bayelsa, you will face consequences.

“One of us is stronger than twenty. Our brother, the governor of Bayelsa State, no matter our political disagreements—will always have our support.

“Even in Rivers State, our son Fubara will return to his rightful place. Dialogue and understanding will prevail.”

Tompolo also reflected on the political dynamics that led to Fubara’s emergence, referencing former Governor Nyesom Wike’s role in his ascension:

He said: “Wike is my friend, but when he chose Fubara, no Ijaw man was involved or consulted. Yet, here we are standing for truth.”
