Shuaib while speaking with newsmen at the launch of the education support programme held in Abeokuta, stated that the gesture was to empower the youth and promote educational excellence.

“Education is the key to unlocking the potential of young people, therefore I am committed to creating more opportunities for Ogun Central students to succeed,” he said.

As part of the programme, educational materials such as school bags, mathematical sets, exercise books, and past questions of JAMB, SSCE AND NECO were given to the students.

The lawmaker noted that the significance of the programme is to encourage students to excel in their studies and develop a strong foundation for future success.

He therefore emphasised the importance of focusing on empowerment programmes that have a lasting impact, rather than just distributing items that may be sold the next day.

He therefore, encouraged the students to take their education seriously, noting that attending public school is not a disadvantage, but rather an opportunity to mix and relate with people from different backgrounds.

Salisu equally urged the youth on the need to delay their gratification and wean themselves from social media addiction among other distractions that could hinder their academic pursuit.

The lawmaker made this call on Friday at the distribution of essential educational materials such as school bags, mathematical sets, and exercise books among others to the secondary schools in the Senatorial District.

Salisu said, “I have decided to invest in the education of these young ones because I see it as the best form of empowerment to give them a vantage position to be the best in life.

“I am always careful of empowerment of distributing items that will in turn be sold by the beneficiaries. I however believe in the power of education to transform lives and uplift the downtrodden. I am a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria today by the benevolence of the Almighty God and the power of education”.

Salisu urged the students from the public school to stop seeing themselves as inferior to children whose parents have the means to send them to private schools saying that he and the incumbent Speaker of the state house of assembly, Dasi Elemide among many other prominent people in the country were products of public schools.

The Senator told the students to prioritize their studies and shun all forms of distractions, particularly addiction to WhatsApp, Facebook and any other wrong association that could make their academic dreams unattainable.

He advised the students to distance themselves from internet fraud (yahoo yahoo) cultism and rather cultivate strong character and virtues that could always propel them to be the best in life.

Salisu said that the education support programme started last year with over 1000 students obtaining their JAMB forms free while others had the fees for their NECO and WAEC registration paid.

For this year, the Egba-born Senator said over 1000 students will be receiving educational materials ranging from school bags, mathematical sets, exercise books, and past questions books to scholarships.

The lawmaker hailed Gov Dapo Abiodun for doing so much to develop the education sector and restore trust in public schools adding that he would always be join forces with the state government to strengthen the future of the young ones in the state.

Speaking at the occasion, the Commissioner for Education, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu and the Speaker, House of Assembly, Dasi Elemide lauded the Senator for his thoughtfulness and determination to bring the best out of the students in the state.

Arigbabu and Elemide urged the students to focus on their studies and be more purposeful and determined to attain greatness in life.

Also at the Programme is the Chairman of Odeda local government and her counterpart from Ewekoro local government.
