The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Ogun Joint Campus Committee has commended Sen. Shauib Salisu for the reconstruction of the Camp-Alabata-FUNAAB road in Abeokuta, which had been in a state of disrepair for years.
NANS gave the commendation in a statement by its Chairman, Francis Adeyanju in Abeokuta on Wednesday.
The student body noted that the importance of the road to students, residents, and motorists could not be overemphasized.
“The Camp-Alabata-FUNAAB road is a critical artery linking the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), with other communities.
” Its deplorable condition had caused immense hardship to students commuting to campus, disrupted academic schedules, and posed significant safety risks.
“This road also serves as an economic and social lifeline for the surrounding communities, fostering mobility for residents and traders, and enabling the seamless transportation of agricultural and commercial goods.
“Motorists who ply this route daily have endured years of difficulties, which are now being addressed through this commendable intervention.
“The reconstruction of this road is not just an infrastructural upgrade; it is an investment in education, community development, and economic growth.
“For FUNAAB, the improved accessibility will enhance academic activities, attract more students and staff, and position the university as a hub for agricultural innovation and research. For the surrounding communities, it symbolises progress, better connectivity, and new opportunities for development.
“NANS recognises the senator’s commitment to fulfilling his mandate by prioritising this critical project. It is a testament to his dedication to the welfare of his constituents and his understanding of the transformative power of infrastructure in fostering societal growth”, Adeyanju said.
The student body urged other leaders across the country to emulate this example by addressing the infrastructural needs of their communities, particularly those that directly impact education and economic development.
NANS however called on the Senator to speedy completion of the project and to also ensure that the contractor used quality materials for the project “as this will ensure the longevity of the road.
