German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is set to arrive in Nigeria today for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between both nations.
A statement released by the German Embassy on Monday confirmed the visit, highlighting the significance of Nigeria as a key partner for Germany in Africa.
While in Abuja, President Steinmeier will hold talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the Economic Community of West African States Commission, Dr. Alieu Omar Touray. Discussions are expected to focus on bilateral relations, regional stability, and economic cooperation.
Following his engagements in the capital, Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where he is scheduled to meet business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and interact with prominent cultural and civil society figures, including renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka.
The German President will also tour Lagos to gain firsthand insights into the urban development challenges of the megacity, particularly in environmental and social sectors.
Accompanying President Steinmeier is a high-powered business delegation comprising CEOs and senior executives from Germany’s leading companies in IT, high-tech, and energy.
Their presence underscores growing interest from German businesses in exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria.
“This visit sends a strong signal: Nigeria is an important political, economic, and cultural partner of Germany in Africa,” the German Embassy stated.
The visit is expected to foster deeper collaboration in key sectors and further cement the strategic partnership between both countries.
