..,We can’t trust you, system has been compromised’ – PDP’s Agboola to INEC
After declaring results from 15 Local Government Areas in the Ondo State governorship election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it is going on recess and will resume collation at 12 noon to call the remaining 3
The All Progressives Congress (APC) is leading in all the 15 local governments declared so far, with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) coming second.
The collation officer, Prof Olayemi Akinwunmi, who announced the recess, said it is to allow for the arrival of results from the remaining local governments.
“We have three more local governments but we are going to take our recess now until 12noon to receive some from Odigbo, then Ilaje and Eseodo. We resume 12 noon for these local governments,” Prof Akinwunmi said.
The 15 Local Governments Areas declared so far are Ifedore, Ondo East, Ileoluji Oke-Igbo, Idanre, Irele, Akoko South West, Owo, Ondo West, Akoko South East, Akoko North West, Ose, Akoko North East and Akure South, Okitipupa, Akure North
Out of the 15 local governments announced so far, it was only in one that a contending issue came up. The LG is Idanre where the agent of the PDP alleged issues of vote buying, ballot box snatching and no election in some areas. He asked the returning officer to reject results from Idanre.
INEC National Commissioner, Prof Kunle Ajayi, who spoke to Salient Times in Akure, the Ondo State capital before the collation commenced, had assured Ondo people that the result will be declared not later than 6am.
“I can assure you that until we declare the winner, we won’t leave here. We will wait until the last local government before we leave.
“I don’t have any fear that even by 6am, maybe everything would have been over,” the National Commissioner added.
Ondo election: ‘We can’t trust you, system has been compromised’ Agboola to INEC
Mr Agboola Ajayi, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) canddate in the Ondo State Governorship Election, has expressed displeasure at the conduct of the election in Kiribo, Ese-Odo Local Government Area.
Ajayi, was accredited and cast his vote at 10:45 a.m., at Unit 4, Ward 2 Idumado in Kiribo. Ese-Odo LGA.
The PDP governorship candidate and a former deputy governor said that it took more than 10 minutes for the INEC BVAS to capture him.
“The system is not perfect and there are lots of complainants here and there.
“If INEC cannot successfully organise an election in just one state, then you must know that we are running into anarchy.
“I think it is deliberate on the part of INEC, on the part of the Resident Electoral Commission (REC).
“And we have said it severally that we don’t trust Barr. Oluwatoyin Babalola (REC). That this woman cannot be fair.
“The system is compromised and we have series of calls made by everybody. People are complaining of vote buying, BVAS problem. It is a very shameful exercise,” he said.
Agboola also called for the resignation of Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, the INEC chairman,
“And I think people should call on the INEC chairman to resign if he cannot do the job. He should just resign.
“It is totally compromised. This is sad and Nigerians are not happy. Here, it is peaceful to some extent,” he said.
