The Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro has offered free medical outreach to more about 300 residents of the Ijeja Abeokuta and its environs to commemorate October 2024 edition of Family Health Day.
The District Governor, Rotary Club District 9111, Rotarian Dr Oluwole Kukoyi, while speaking with Our Correspondent during the outreach said the gesture was to assist the people in the community to know their health status.
He said the programme will assist those with bigger health challenges to intervene and connect them with both Secondary and Tertiary Health institutions for proper interventions.
He stated that the project, which was in commemoration of Rotary Family Health Day, is aimed at making sure that Nigerians remain healthy all the time.
According to him, the choice of the community is deliberate, as it is populated by low income earners, who are in dire need of basic healthcare.
“The free medical outreach will provide essential health checks, including malaria screening, blood pressure tests, HIV screening, deworming for children and Eye examinations and so many other tests for the pregnant women present here”, Rotarian Kukoyi stated.
He further said the programme is an annual event meant to give back to the society.
In his words, “when the people are healthy, the nation is healthy.
“In Rotary Club International , peoples healthcare is our cardinal area of focus. It is our top most priority. We are passionate about peoples welfare”.
President elect of Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro, Rotarian, Olori Oyekan Ogundeji Bisayo Catherine, said the Family Health Days is being observed two times in a year.with focus on the promotion of healthy living among the community.
She explained that the aim of the outreach is to improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in the community
The club embarked on a day, medical outreach for less privileged and vulnerable people including elderly persons,women and children, as they were screened for various ailments and treatment.
The October medical outreach, took place at Ijeja Maternity Center and saw the beneficiaries having access to healthcare services.
The beneficiaries who were beaming with smiles were happy that they had the opportunity to access different health services right at their doorsteps.
“These interventions were done to expand access to quality care so mothers and children can have the same opportunities for a healthy future.
“We decided to flag off this kind of intervention for children,women,youths and aged persons in the communities, because we identify that a lot of these women are not able to get the type of care that they want for basic problems.
”A major reason, we have offered the free medical outreach for residents. This is just to touch lives and compliment government efforts towards accessing healthcare services.
“The event featured a comprehensive array of services, including: Polio Immunization, HIV Testing and Counselling. Malaria Screening and Treatment, Family Planning and Counselling.
The Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro is deeply committed to serving its community and addressing the healthcare needs of its residents.
