Rotary Club Of Abeokuta Metro Organise Read A Book Challenge

As part of its efforts towards promoting the reading culture among pupils and students, Rotary Club of Abeokuta Metro organised Read a Book Challenge to mark the Rotary International month of Basic Education and Literacy Project Campaign.

In his welcome address the Club Chairman on Basic Education and Literacy Project Rotarian( Barrister ) Adeyemi Damilare stated that the project was aimed at enhancing the capacity of the pupils communication skills while building their confidence as they are encouraged to read diverse set of books for pleasure.

The President of the Club, Rotarian Abiodun Ogundaini Speaking at the event said this year edition of Basic Education and Literacy Project was strategically targeted at public primary school and the choice of Community Primary School, Olomore is to compliment government and public teachers efforts in the development of the young ones most significantly perceived disadvantage schools in terms of educational infrastructure and basic facilities for learning. He emphasized.the fact that the Club is willing and ready within it’s limited resources to invest in any project and programmes that will promote quality and competitive future leaders that will add value to the growth of their community and society at large

The Reading challenge which started on Monday 23rd September had its final competition amongst pupils of the school from Basic 1-6 with Sixteen finalist.

Popoola Abdulroqueeb a pupil of Basic 4 was adjudged the overall winner while Oladepo Emmanuel a pupil of Basic 2 and Olowolagba Misturat emerged 1st and 2nd runner up respectively

Several gift items, cash prizes and certificate of participation were awarded the winners and all participants. The Club also donated textbooks to each of the competing classes for the general use of the pupils.

The Head Teacher, Mrs Olubunmi Asoore, appreciating the club for its thoughtfulness, expounded on the comment by the Chairman, Rotary Basic Education and Literacy, that pupils can only learn to read effectively and efficiently by reading always, she noted that this event has had great impact on the pupils as they are encouraged to read while making reading a lifestyle.

Rotary International is a Global Network of Business People Committed to Philanthropic and Humanitarian gesture. The organisation has Seven Areas of focus where it derives it’s monthly theme and project implementation inspiration from.
