Osun police arrest man for killing Ghanian friend for money ritual

The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old Kehinde Ganiyu for the alleged murder of his Ghanian friend identified as Emmanuel Collins in Osogbo for money ritual purposes.

According to the Command’s Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola during a press briefing in Osogbo on Friday, 35-year-old Collins was murdered by his friend Ganiyu on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.

Opalola also disclosed that the suspect confessed to killing Collins by slaughtering him with a kitchen knife while he was sleeping and removing his throat which he later confessed to drying in the sun for three days.

Exhibits recovered in the arrest of Ganiyu included four different blood-stained knives, one chisel, two gourds, one wooden traditional pot containing black soap, two local sponges with black soap, one wooded traditional tray (opon ifa), one wooden box and some local charms.

She said, “On 18th July 2024 at about 3:00 pm, upon information received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Oke-Odo Division Osogbo that, on the same date at about 2:30 pm a Ghanaian named Emmanuel Collins ‘m’ about 35yrs old was killed by a yet to be identified individual, Police detectives swung into action and through an intelligence-led investigation, one Kehinde Ganiyu ‘m’ intimate friend to the deceased was arrested.

“He confessed to the commission of the heinous crime and stated that, on 9th July 2024, at about 9:00 pm, he went to the deceased’s residence with a knife where he met him sleeping because he was sick. He slaughtered the deceased with the kitchen knife and removed his throat.

“He added further that, he dried the throat for three days before he took it to a bush called Igbo Imese Aiwosi Area, located at Oba-Oke village where he burnt it in a clay pot with some ritual materials and later mixed the burnt powder with soap for money ritual (OSOLE).

“He confessed to having single-handedly carried out the operation.”

Opalola added that an investigation is still ongoing and the suspect will be charged in court accordingly.

Also, 22-year-old Effiong Saviour was arrested for attempted murder and robbery.

The Command spokesperson, Opalola who revealed the arrest to journalists, said Effiong viciously attacked his victim who was on her way home with a cutlass on Wednesday evening, July 17, 2024, at Ipetumodu town.

She also added that Effiong robbed his victim of her handbag containing her phone, GTB ATM card, phone batteries, phone chargers and the sum of six thousand naira cash (N6,000) and inflicted severe machete cuts all over her body.

In her words, “On 18th July 2024 at about 10:15 am, the complainant reported at Ipetumodu Division that, at about 6:00 pm of 17th July 2024, his elder sister was attacked with cutlass by the suspect on her way home and was robbed of her handbag containing phone, GTB ATM card, phone batteries, phone chargers and the sum of Six thousand naira cash (N6,000) and inflicted severe machete cut all over her body.

“Immediately the report was received, Police operatives from Ipetumodu swung into action and the suspect; one Effiong Saviour ‘m’ 22yrs was arrested. The suspect made a confessional statement that led to the recovery of all the stolen items as alleged. The cutlass used to perpetrate the ugly act was also recovered.

“The victim was rescued to Hospital for medical attention and she is responding to treatment.”

She also said that the suspect would be charged to court after the completion of investigations
