The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says residents in Osun, Anambra and Bayelsa states paid the highest amount for liquefied petroleum gas, better known as cooking gas, in April.
The average price for refilling a 12.5 kilogram (kg) cylinder of cooking gas during the month under review was N15,637.74.
The NBS said this in its ‘Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) Price Watch’ for April.
According to the report, the average retail price of cooking gas increased by 51.48 percent from a lower cost of N10,323.33 in April 2023.
On month-on-month basis, the price reduced by 1.83 percent from N15,929.04 in March.
“On state profile analysis, Osun recorded the highest average retail price for the refilling of a 12.5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with N17,801.67, followed by Anambra with N17,142.86 and Bayelsa with N16,975.00,” NBS said.
“Conversely, the lowest average price was recorded in Bauchi with N13,745.12, followed by Kogi and Adamawa with N13,967.31 and N14,088.75 respectively.
Analysis by zone showed that the south-south recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 12.5kg cylinder with N16,420.19, followed by the south-west with N16,231.02 while the north-central recorded the lowest price with N15,038.87.
‘Price Of 5kg Lpg Increased By 40% Y-o-y’
NBS also said the average retail price for refilling a 5kg Cylinder of LPG on a year-on-year basis, increased by 40.48 percent to N6,521.58 in April, compared to N4,642.27 in the same period last year.
While it declined by 1.06 percent on a month-on-month basis from N6,591.62 recorded in March to N6,521.58 in April.
“On state profile analysis, Bauchi recorded the highest average price for refilling a 5kg Cylinder of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Cooking Gas) with N7,000.00, followed by Kano with N6,998.67, and Yobe with N6,962.50,” NBS said.
“On the other hand, Adamawa recorded the lowest price with N5,470.00, followed by Enugu and Katsina with N5,973.53 and N5,981.82 respectively.”
In addition, the bureau said in terms of region, the south-south recorded the highest average retail price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of LPG with N6,767.27, followed by the north-east with N6,602.50, while the south-east recorded the lowest with N6,204.86.
