Gov Alia Swears in BSIEC Chairman, other Commissioners

The Benue State governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has sworn in the newly-appointed chairman of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Dr. John Chen , and other commissioners with a charge on them to fostering a transparent electoral process that could enhance public trust and confidence in the democratic institutions.
Governor Alia, speaking during the occasion which held on Thursday at Banquet hall of Benue Government House charged them to speedily look evolved process for the conduct of Councils elections in no distant future.
Those inaugurated were Dr John Chen – Chairman, Terhemen Shom, Theodore Iordye, Aikighe Deva, Isaac Edache, Gloria Clement and Peter Ogagbolo.
He further tasked the new electoral commission members on free, credible and inclusive council pools.
He said the State Government was solidly behind them to succeed on their given mandate.
“Conduct elections that are free, credible and that which reflects the wishes and aspirations of the Benue people.
According to him his leadership is committed to the independence of the Electoral Commission. Start working immediately and give us an election time table.” he charged
He also thanked the Electoral Commission members for accepting to serve the State in that capacity.
The governor also commended the assembly members for their good work during the screening and confirmation of the BSIEC members.
Speaking on behalf of the Electoral Commission members, Dr John Chen, Chairman Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), said they understood the duties of their offices and the yearnings of the people of pledging to ensure credibility whenever the need arises.
The Bsiec would never betrayed the confidence repose in him promising to live above board saying we have already known the blueprint of current dispensation under the watch Governor Alia will never go to the contrary.
