Akogun Segun Okeowo, the famous National leadership for democratization of Education in Nigeria, referred as “Ali Must Go” struggle in 1978, during the General Olusegun Obasanjo Military era, has been described as an epitome of dignity, hardwork, honesty and an icon in the field of unionism.

The State Commissioner for Education Science and Technology Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu made the submission at the 10 year memorial lecture of late Akogun(Dr) Segun Okeowo , the grand Commander of Aluta forces held at Ewusi Palace , Makun Sagamu, Ogun State.

The Commissioner who presented a paper tagged ” Maximizing the potentials of students Unionism for National Development” said Akogun Segun Okeowo who and some of his colleagues were brutally vandalized, leading to the murder of many, especially at the University of Lagos and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, really defines what unionism stands for, emphasizing the reason for students to uphold moral values, sense of civic responsibilities and strong political wheel for the purpose of National development in institutions across the Country.

Abayomi said that students and present Union executives should see how they could emulate his attributes for their individual growth and institutional development, saying the current unionism in various institution are not getting the vision unionism was meant for, aduquatly right.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman, Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) Envg. Olalekan Joshua Ifede ANCOPSS President, Mr Edwards Adekoya, NASU President Mr. Oduneye Olumide and President, Remo Club,Mr. Abdul Abayomi, said the late Okeowo was a man of substance and many parts who stands for the truth, adding that the Commission is standing on policies he left behind as the former Chairman of TESCOM.

TESCOM Chairman said his daughter in person of Dr. (Mrs.) Ayodele Womiloju the immediate past ANCOPSS president, has been a pillar of support and asset to the growth and development of TESCOM, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole, applauding the Children for maintaining the legacies of the late famous Akogun Segun Okeowo.

In his contribution, Ewusi of Makun, Sagamu, Oba Timothy Akinsanya, stated that Okeowo during his lifetime was popularly referred to as “Ali Must Go” fourth for justice and equality , stressing that he left indelible landmark in the Community which no one has been able to fill the vacuum.

Earlier in her welcome address, the first daughter, Dr. (Mrs) Ayodele Womiloju urged the participants, particularly the students to listen attentively and make the best out of the lecture, adding that his father was an ambassador in the field of education and a Sagamu born philosopher who could be referred to as another Plato or Aristotle of his time , a democrats, teacher and principal as well as a political administrator of repute.

She added that his late father whose definition of life encapsulated in many of his life philosophy, gave unionism a proactive definition that needed to researched into and adopted for positive development among the younger generations.

Reeling out the late legend biography, the Son, Comrade. Kayode Segun Okeowo said in 2003, he was appointed a Commissioner 1 in (TESCOM) of Ogun State. In 2007, and officially resume as the Chairman of the Commission, an office he held till May 2011.

Maikel EniOlorunda Lasisi Olusegun Okeowo was born on 5th August 1941 during the Second World War to Papa Jeremiah Okeowo and Madam Abigail Alaba Okeowo. A die hard community practitioner, was the Baameto of Remoland which the Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Michael Adeniyi Sonariwo, Erinjugbo II; OON, conferred upon him, also the grand patron of “THE AKOGUN BASE’’ a social-political cultural and youth oriented NGO in Sagamu. He was also conferred the GRAND COMMANDER OF NIGERIAN TEACHERS by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, the undisputed GRAND COMMANDER OF ALUTA FORCES and a Life membership of the University of Lagos Students Union amongst numerous other honours from students’ bodies.

The event witnessed a drama and dance performance by the students of various public secondary schools in Iperu Remo
